Company History and Information “Chickenfoot” is a fascinating domino-type game which was inspired by Betty and Louis Howsley (Louis passed away in 1994, but the tradition continues…) The game is used widely not only for family/friendship fun but also for therapeutic and rehabilitation purposes. Here is how it began. In a West Texas lake cabin, Betty and Louis were entertaining friends who loved to relax and play traditional games including Monopoly, cards and Bingo. They also enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and, of course, eating way too much! While playing games and eating, one of the friends thought it might be entertaining to paint some bright colored dots on tile and create a new domino game. Whoever thought the bright colored dots on tile would soon become the game of “Chickenfoot”? We had lots of fun painting and playing. Someone suggested we sell a few sets in the summertime at our Fox Creek Store. We all knew it would be an exciting family game for all ages, and could be played sitting around the picnic table or by the campfire. Louis took the quest and came home a couple of weeks later with a case of dominoes and some beautiful, brightly colored paints. I painted a few sets to give to friends, hoping to share the excitement and enthusiasm for our new venture. We also placed a few game sets in our showcase at the Fox Creek Store. Customers were intrigued and curious about the brilliant, shiny dotted tiles. We would then explain the “Chickenfoot” game concept, play a few games and eat, of course. There is nothing that does not go with a great game of “Chickenfoot”, but we soon discovered that hamburgers and home made ice cream just seemed to make the playing most fun! Perhaps it was the food combined with the genuine “Chickenfoot” parties that inspired those most wonderful friendships with the “strangers” we had shared with and entertained. It is no wonder that Louis went fishing one day, since the Fox Creek Store is conveniently located in an absolute Mecca for fly fishing! What was surprising, though, was that Louis’ fishing partner that day was a Copyright-Patent Attorney. This “stranger”, who also became a life time friend, suggested that we copyright the rules for our “Chickenfoot” game and inventory each original set with a serial number. We never really market the game; most of our sales came by word of mouth. We always enjoyed sharing the lake cabin – novice – entrepreneurial development of the game. People now call from all over the world! I continue to maintain the Fox Creek Store even since Louis’ passing in 1994 and still market the hand painted tile sets. The “Chickenfoot” game is pure family fun. The “Chickenfoot” sets have been customized to represent many states, sports teams and other personal interests. Some folks have even ventured to expand the playing guidelines to include requirements for chicken squawks and noises, fried chicken or other foods that taste like chicken! We love talking to people. Please call us if you would like to know more! We would love to talk to you, too! |
